How ordering/being picked/waiting and getting the costume from mixedcandy works

There are a few steps to follow when ordering from us. Be sure to read this section to know what happens when you place an order, send in your deposit and what to do while you wait.

The very first step is to see when we are open to give out early quotes/quotes. We open usually every 3 months and close for 3 months as well. If you check the main page you will always know when we open back up to start providing quotes or filling orders. Once we open back up for quotes/orders, you can email us via order form that will pop up in the "Place an Order" page. When we are closed, the page will tell you we are not currently accepting commissions.

Once you have filled that form completely. (Please be sure to fill out all of the information asked for as we need it to be able to correctly quote you. Be sure to have correct concept art attached the the form as well). You will wait a period up to 7 days to get a reply from us. We get quite a few emails when we open so we sort through the emails in a few days. If you have not received an email back within 7 days be sure to re-send your email to make sure we did not miss it or it might of not arrived the first time around. If you do not want to wait to find out if your email made it or not, send us a quick email asking just to make sure you quote sheet came in.

From there we pick the costumes that we want to create. We cannot pick every single order that comes in as we do not have enough time or workers to work on everything that makes it into our inbox. We tend to pick the ones that we think will look best as a completed costume. If you do not get chosen we will email you back and tell you that we are currently full. You are more than welcome to re-submit next time. If you want to know why yours was not picked we can give you some pointers to have a better chance of getting picked the next time around (sometimes we turn people away because of bad concept art, extremely crazy designs, colors than cannot be found in certain lengths etc..)

Once we have picked you, we will email you back telling you that we would like to work on your costume. You will be asked for 30% of the full price to save your spot on our list. We will then email you back with an estimated completion month (We say estimated month, as it could be done that exact month or early the next). Once you have that in and we have exchanged the information we need all you need to do is wait.

Once the time comes which we are about to work on your costume we will inform you either via Livejournal community (which is where we post almost daily news) or via email. We tend to send you an email the month before you are to be completed so you can send in your duct tape dummy (if you are getting a full costume) your measurements and final payment. During this time if you need swatches sent to you or you have made some alterations to the previous art, be sure to inform us as well. If you have questions, ask them. The more we know about what you want the better your costume will look and the closer it will look to the idea you had in mind.

Here at Mixedcandy we do not provide progress photos. During the time we actually start to work on your costume we will only tell you once we have started, what pieces have been completed and the final day where it all comes together. Once the costume is completed we will send you photos for you to see, approve and we can ship it out to you.

Once it has arrived, you have tried it on, inspected it, be sure to tell us what you think. We do like to know what our customers have to say about our work. And if anything needs to be fixed or altered tell us right when you get it so we can get it changed right away. We believe in providing a great quality product and great customer care. We make these costumes for you :).

What to do while you wait for your costume to be completed?

Many have asked this questions, as we do make many of you wait for about a year or more. Depending on when you placed the order and what month you were placed in for estimated completion. Because we make every single one of these costumes a one of a kind piece of art, they take time to make. Do take in mind that there are many before you so we are working on all of them before we can get to you. I might not be able to provide you with any progress until the month you are due, or month before. This is not because we leave it until the end but that is when you are scheduled to be worked on. If you are curious of what sort of progress your costume has at the moment you can email us. Just be sure not to email us too far in advance as we won't be able to give you much information from "no progress just yet". Be patient, and you will get the costume you have always wanted.

Information and Answered Questions *Please Read*
  • Do not ask for a costume that has a copyright attached to it. (This means characters that are seen in games/TV/Movies etc..) We only make original one of a kind creations.
  • Please do not ask for costume duplicates. If you have seen it in our gallery please do not ask us to copy the costume. We only make one of a kind costumes.
  • No concept art, No quote/Costume? You must have concept art for us to quote you. So please do not email us unless you have concept art handy along with a description of what you are after.
  • Concept art must be PG in rating.
  • If the concept art is not acceptable, we will tell you to get new artwork done of your character (this is usually when we cannot tell what is going on).
  • Duct Tape Dummies are a must no matter what for full costumes. A full tutorial has been created here.
  • Please take your time and create the dummy how we point out how to do so in the tutorial. Badly made dummies will not be worked with and we will have to ask for another (by doing so it delays your costumes completion, so make sure you make it correctly the first time around to avoid delays).
  • We do not provide progress photos of the costumes creation. We will update you via email or livejournal community on what is going on. If you want to email us about the costume progress you are welcome to do so but photos will not be taken. Once the artwork and materials have been approved we will start the process and take photos of the finished product. This is why "Good/Clear" concept art is key to get the costume looking the way you want.
  • If you want to know what is going on almost daily here at Mixedcandy, be sure to read our livejournal community at: http://community.livejournal.com/mcmascots/
  • Send Duct Tape Dummy and final payment one month before costume completion. We will email you with an estimated time of costume completion. Do not send the dummy in earlier than one month before completion.
  • Send all payments/Dummy to the address posted in the contact page.
  • Once the 30% is in saving your spot on our commission list you are more than welcome to pay in installments. If you would rather wait and pay the rest one month before costume completion, that works too.
  • If you want to upgrade your costume, or costume pieces please be sure to tell us at least 3 months before we are to work on your costume.
  • Do not email us asking for a quote if we are closed. Please read the news page or livejournal community when we will start providing early quotes. Early quotes are usually one month before we actually open. So keep an eye on that.
  • Do not place an order until our order sheet is up. We close from time to time and when we open an order sheet pops up on the website. We update everyone via front page when that order sheet will appear.
  • No prices for costumes on the website? We do not post prices for costumes or pieces on the website. Every costume is unique, so is the price for it. This is why it is very important that you provide us with concept art and a description of what you are after to send you, your unique quote.
  • And as always if you have any questions please email us at mixedcandyorders@gmail.com give us up to a full week to respond to you. If we have not responded to you within a week then re-send the email.

Heads

Heads

We offer a variety of styles of heads, such styles include: plastic eyes, 3D eyes, glass eyes. Realistic, cartoony or inbetween.

The difference between 3D and Non 3D eyes:

All 3D eyes will follow the viewer. It does not matter what angle you are looking at the costume, the costume will always look back. Plastic eyes, and glass eyes will only look where the actual person who is wearing is looking. All styles offer a variety of looks, so look through the gallery and see which style works for you.

Be sure to check out our 3D glass eyed video if you want to see how they work (click here)

Moving Jaw:

Moving Jaw video to show how our jaw moves (you must have flash to view this video)

Also posted via youtube if this one does not load.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yp3qc-_Lozs

Moving jaw video of how one of our toony heads work can also be seen here:

Press "right click" on your mouse on top of the video to replay it by pressing play. It will automatically play but will not Loop until you right click and then press play.

*Moving jaw heads have jaws that move when you over exaggerate your own jaw movements (do take in mind they are not fluid moving).

*Static jaws can be made to look like anything you want. The moving jaw has to stick to a certain look to work, but the static jaw does not. We can make bigger smiles or express pretty much any expression with a static jaw over a moving one.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION ON THE WAY WE DO A NON MOVING JAW AND MOVING JAW. PLEASE BE SURE TO READ THIS SECTION TO MAKE SURE THE HEAD WILL FIT YOUR FACE CORRECTLY.

Mixedcandy's moving jaw need a specific jaw structure for it to work properly. In diagram 1 you can see the person has a well defined chin, which will be perfect for the moving jaw. A moving jaw only works if the person can correctly cradle their own chin inside the jaw system. If the your own chin sits incorrectly, the jaw will not work at all. The 2nd diagram shows which style of chin would not work on our moving jaw heads. Larger people with a thicker chin area, or not as defined as diagram 1 will not be able to have a jaw that moves correctly. People that fall under the category of number 2 we suggest you ask for a non moving jaw on your costume. Do take in mind both offer the same amount of airflow :)

There are 2 very different looks when it comes to a moving jaw and a static jaw. A moving jaw moves when the person exaggerates their own jaw movements to make the costumes jaw move. This can only be achieved if you fit the profile of diagram number 1 shown above. A moving jaw is restricted to the way it looks, it needs to be straight on our heads and makes the head appear more serious. If you are going for a character that fits that look/and a moving jaw then it is a good choice. If you are wanting a more exaggerated look, to fit a Cartoon feel we suggest the non moving jaw. The non moving jaw fits anyone, does not matter if you do not fit diagram 1 shown above (it just works!). Any look/expression can be created with a non moving jaw. We can create anything from a very happy smile to an angry or relaxed expression. Non moving jaws are more durable, as there are no moving parts on the head compared to a moving one (something to keep in mind).

If you have any questions on which jaw style would fit your costume best be sure to ask us. If you are not sure if you fit under the requirements for the moving jaw, be sure to send us a profile photo of your face. That way we can check and tell you what your best option will be.

The better the concept art the easier for us to be able to make it look just like your character.

body styles

Mixedcandy offers a variety of body styles, but these are a few to help you make it easier to pick a body style that you are after for your costume.

ABS & Pecs

This is minor padding and is just added to the abs and pecs of the costume. If you want a strong looking character with subtle padding this is a good option. Padding is sewn onto the body so you do not need to wear anything extra underneath the costume.

Examples:

http://mixedcandymascots.com/gallery/v/wolves/leo/

http://mixedcandymascots.com/gallery/v/wolves/Vincent/

Chest & Hips

Usually done to alter the body shape of the person underneath. In the example it was to make the body of a man look more female. Adding chest and hips gives the illusion of a curvier body shape. Chest padding can also be added to a male costume to make the chest appear larger or thicker. Padding is attached to spandex pants/shirt underneath for easy wear and washing.

Examples:

http://mixedcandymascots.com/gallery/v/foxes/victoria/

http://mixedcandymascots.com/gallery/v/canines/husky+girl/

Animal Legs

Animal leg padding is the padding to give the illusion that your legs look closer to a real animals legs. These can be done small or much larger, just be sure to tell us how large you would want the animal legs to look like via artwork. Padding is attached to spandex pants underneath for easy wear and washing.

Examples:

http://mixedcandymascots.com/gallery/v/canines/Ford/

http://mixedcandymascots.com/gallery/v/Hoovedanimals/Rubix/

Belly & Rear

A good idea for padding if you want to look rounder. Padding was given to the example to make him look Fat. Padding is attached to spandex pants/shirt underneath for easy wear and washing.

Example:

http://mixedcandymascots.com/gallery/v/bears/Boswell/

No Padding

The easiest of costumes to wear. Less things to put on the easier everything is to wear and take off. All costume with padding will get warmer than the ones without. This is a good style for people who want a closer fitting costume or just a baggier costume. Be sure to tell us what look you are wanting to go for with this style.

Examples:

http://mixedcandymascots.com/gallery/v/other/Sage/

http://mixedcandymascots.com/gallery/v/canines/crash/

Full Body Padding

Full body padding is full body sculpting of all the muscles we can fit in your costume. We can make them small or as large as you want. You would be wearing a full unitard underneath with muscles attached to it so you can take it out and wash it as well. These costumes are much more intricate than the other styles listed above and are also the largest and warmest costumes. We can completely change your body shape in this manner to almost anything you want (just show us what you have in mind if you are interested in this style).

Example:

http://mixedcandymascots.com/gallery/v/wolves/Abram/

Can you do partial padding or slight padding all over?

This is a question we get often, this is why we created this diagram. We do padding in certain areas as shown in the above examples but we do not offer just padding in arms, or legs. We like to create a balance with the costumes so the way we have split it up in the diagrams works best for us and looks the best when created as a costume. If you are really wanting muscles I suggest full body padding. If you are wanting a lean body with slight muscles how about a mix of animal legs and abs and pecs. So be sure to pick one or 2 of these when describing what sort of body style you are after.
